This volume follows two others, published by Roma Editora in 2005 and 2008, which aimed to analytically examine the fiction books awarded with the APE's Grand Prize for Romance and Novel between 1982 and 2002 and draw attention to the work of the writers and intellectuals who deserved the Camões Prize, from 1989 to 2007. To the conception of the collection that now presents itself underlies identical objective: to provide studies on certain anthologies of brief narratives, whose originality justified the award of the Grand Prize of the Tale Camilo Castelo Branco, from 1991 until the year of 2009. However, this time it deserves reference to the following novelty: each critical review is accompanied by a short story, considered by essayists as the most representative of the census collections. Thus, the reader has access to an anthology of the best that was produced in the field of this literary genre, from the perspective of the juries responsible for awarding the awards. The importance of the current publication also has to do with the range of employees who have agreed to participate in the project and who have had full freedom in choosing methods of literary analysis. These are renowned professors and researchers from some Portuguese institutions, namely the Universities of the Algarve, Beira Interior, Coimbra and the Lusophone and European Literature and Culture Centre of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, as well as foreign universities, such as Budapest, Minnesota, Paris 3, Sofia and Warsaw.
